Brigade QB Chris Sanders named AFL Offensive Player of the Week

April 25, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Kansas City Brigade News Release

In the first such honor of the team's inaugural season, Brigade quarterback Chris Sanders was named the AFL Offensive Player of the Week for Week 13. He received the honor, decided by the league offices in New York and Chicago, over the performances of some of the league's best players, including Dallas Desperados duo Clint Dolezel and Terrill Shaw and Chicago Rush duo Matt D'Orazio and Bobby Sippio.

Against the Nashville Kats last Saturday, he completed 24 of 30 passes (80 percent) for 291 yards with six touchdowns. He also rushed for 24 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Sanders threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Sam Simmons with 39 seconds left for the Brigade's first road victory of the season.

"This is a reflection of how far our team has come with the new transactions," Sanders said. "All I know is that whoever wins this award means that his team won the last game and that is the most important thing to me. Also, the work we have put in as a team has paid off. Offensively our receiving corps is very talented and complements each other extremely well and the line is doing a great job."

Sanders has appeared in eight games-starting the last six-totaling 149 completions on 224 attempts (67 percent) for 1,663 yards with 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 92 yards on 42 carries with 11 touchdowns. Sanders has been named Offensive Player of the Game twice: Week 10 versus Georgia and last week at Nashville. For the season now, Sanders is tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns with 11.
