THE GAME:

The 2005 ArenaBowl Champion Colorado Crush host their second straight home contest when the Orlando Predators visit the Pepsi Center on Friday, April 30th at 3:45 p.m. Orlando will be just the second team in the last nine weeks that the Crush have faced with a winning record. Colorado has also dropped two of their last three home contests.

Colorado has a golden opportunity this week to control their destiny in the Drive to ArenaBowl XX. A victory over the Predators would clinch the Crush's second straight Central Division title and give Colorado a bye in the Wild Card Round. The Crush also hold a two-game lead over San Jose and Arizona in the race for the American Conference's top seed, so a Colorado victory combined with losses by the SaberCats and Rattlers would give the Crush home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Arena Football history could be made Sunday afternoon, as Crush OS Damian Harrell is one receiving touchdown away from etching his name atop the AFL record books for most receiving touchdowns in a single-season. Harrell tied the league mark of 46 receiving scores last week when he hauled in his third touchdown of the game against the Utah Blaze. He is the current league leader in scoring (276 points), receptions (123), receiving yards (1,558) and receiving touchdowns (46).

The Orlando Predators come into the game as the league's hottest team riding a five-game winning streak. During their recent run, the Predators have held all five opponents to under 42 points and have allowed a league-low average of 30.8 points per game.

Orlando has taken control of the Southern Division lead following back-to-back victories over Georgia and Tampa Bay, as last week they dominated from start to finish, handing the Storm their worst loss in franchise history, 52-13.

The Predators are paced by QB Joe Hamilton, who has thrown for 55 touchdowns this season and run for eight more scores. On defense, Orlando lineman Henry Taylor leads the AFL in sacks with 7.5 and Jeroid Johnson leads the league in pass break-ups (27) and forced fumbles (5).

HEAD COACHES:

MIKE DAILIEY, Colorado (97-62, 10th Year): Dailey enters his third season in Colorado and tenth as head coach in the AFL, after becoming the Crush's second head coach on June 26, 2003. Dailey joined the Crush following 13 seasons in the Albany/Indiana Firebirds organization, including the final seven as head coach.

One of the most successful and well-respected coaches in AFL history, his teams have made seven postseason appearances and he has won four division titles and two championships.

Last season under Dailey's guidance, the Crush captured their first Central Division title en route to claiming a 51-48 victory in ArenaBowl XIX giving Colorado their first AFL championship in only their third year of existence. With the team's win over Chicago in the American Conference championship game on June 5th, Dailey became the fourth winningest coach in AFL history surpassing Perry Moss.

In his first season in Colorado, Dailey helped guide the Crush to the largest turnaround in AFL history, inheriting a 2-14 team and leading them to an 11-5 record in 2004, tied for the best in the league. He also led the Crush to their first playoff appearance and first win, advancing to the AFL Semifinals.

In 1999, Dailey led the Firebirds to their only ArenaBowl championship and was named AFL Coach of the Year. Before being named head coach of the Firebirds in 1997,
Dailey served as an assistant in Albany for five seasons.

Dailey began his AFL coaching career with the Washington Commandos where he served as offensive/defensive line coach in 1990. He joined the Firebirds organization in the same capacity in 1991.

Prior to the AFL, Dailey worked as an assistant coach at Towson State University and was the offensive coordinator at Montgomery College-Rockville (Md.). Dailey got his start in coaching in 1981 as a 22-year-old assistant at Georgetown Prep High School in Rockville, Md. The move to coaching followed a semi-pro football career in the Washington D.C. area.

9. Jay Gruden- Orlando 73

JAY GRUDEN, Orlando (73-41, 7th Year): Whether as a head coach, player or offensive coordinator, Jay Gruden's name has been synonymous with success in the Arena Football League. In his 15 seasons in the Arena League, Gruden has been in the playoffs each season. He has made seven trips to the ArenaBowl and owns six championship rings.

As a head coach, he is 71-41 and ranks in the top 10 overall in coaching wins and winning percentage. He is one of only five AFL coaches with two or more ArenaBowl championships. In the playoffs, his 11-4 mark as a head coach ranks in the top five all-time in victories and winning percentage. As a quarterback, he ranks in the top ten with more than 20,000 passing yards and close to 400 touchdowns. He won 15 of 19 post-season starts with 4,761 passing yards and 77 touchdowns. Gruden was 84-25 (.770) as a starting quarterback. That mark, combined with his 10-5 record as Nashville's offensive coordinator and his 64-37 record as head coach, takes Gruden's all-time Arena Football League record to 158-67 (.702). As a player, assistant coach or head coach, Gruden has never failed to lead his team to the playoffs.

LAST WEEK:

DENVER -- In just his second game since joining the Utah Blaze, quarterback Andy Kelly completed 27 of 37 passes for 314 yards and four touchdowns to direct his new team to a 52-40 win over the Colorado Crush in front of 15,321 onlookers at Pepsi Center on Friday evening.
The Crush dropped to 9-4 with the defeat, which was its second in its last three home games. The expansion Blaze improved to 5-8.
Colorado opened up a 19-14 lead in the second quarter after fullback/linebacker Anthony Dunn sacked Kelly for a safety and then scored on a 1-yard plunge on the ensuing possession. The Crush had a chance to increase that lead after forcing the Blaze to settle for a missed field-goal attempt with 24 seconds remaining in the half, but Utah's Thal Woods intercepted a lobbed toss to give the Blaze possession six seconds later.
Instead, the Blaze would have the game in its grasp the rest of the way. Three plays after Woods' interception, Kelly found Siaha Burley for a 17-yard touchdown connection with two seconds left before halftime. That touchdown put Utah in front 21-19, and the visitors would never trail again.
Kelly would directed the Blaze to five consecutive scoring drives in the second half before the clock ran out on its final possession. He is now 2-0 as the Blaze's starting quarterback and has piloted the team back into playoff contention. It had suffered four consecutive losses prior to his signing with Utah after the Kansas City Brigade released him.
The lone bright spot for the Crush came when offensive specialist Damian Harrell caught three touchdown passes, allowing him to tie the league's single-season touchdown record with 46 scores.
Wide receiver/defensive back Willis Marshall also contributed 211 all-purpose yards and a rushing touchdown.

LAST TIME THESE TEAMS MET:

ORLANDO -- Just inches separated the Crush from overtime and a chance to snatch a win at Orlando on Sunday afternoon.

New placekicker Clay Rush -- who kept the Crush in the game with field goals of 55 and 21 yards earlier in the contest -- missed a potential game-tying field goal from 22 yards away as time expired, dooming the Crush to a 39-36 loss to the Predators inside the TD Waterhouse Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The ending negated what had a chance to be a last-minute drive to victory for the Crush, which trailed 32-17 in the third quarter before scratching its way back into the contest. Colorado drove from its 7-yard-line to the Orlando 6 in the final minute, making three first downs -- one via penalty and another two on John Dutton passes to Damian Harrell and Kevin McKenzie.

But with first-and-goal from the Orlando 6, two passes intended for McKenzie fell incomplete, setting up what would be an unsuccessful field-goal try.

Colorado's defense kept the Crush in the game with a series of timely stops, a safety on a Rich Young sack of Joe Hamilton late in the fourth quarter and a touchdown when Tank Reese fell on a fumble in the end zone during the third period. The Crush also held the Predators to just 245 yards from scrimmage and forced an interception that McKenzie procured on the game's first possession.

But the Crush offense found open room difficult against an Orlando defense that stymied it at every corner. The Crush mustered only 226 total yards and 13 first downs while turning the ball over twice on an interception and a fumble. The fumble came when Orlando lineman E.J. Burt sacked Dutton -- the first time the Crush yielded a sack since Week 4 of the 2004 season.

Harrell scored three touchdowns on receptions of 2, 18 and 40 yards. The 40-yarder came 5:37 into the second half and was the Crush's final offensive touchdown of the afternoon.

THINGS TO WATCH:

HARRELL-DED RECEIVER:

Colorado Crush offensive specialist and reigning AFL Offensive Player of the Year Damian Harrell currently leads the league in touchdowns with 46 and is one score away from breaking the AFL single-season receiving touchdowns record. The current touchdown mark is shared by five different players (most recently by Siaha Burley in 2005).

Harrell is on pace to catch 57 touchdowns this season.

Harrell also leads the AFL with 276 points scored. He is on pace for 339 points, which would break the single-season record of 310 set by San Jose WR/DB Barry Wagner in 1997, while Wagner was playing for the Orlando Predators.

Harrell is the current AFL leader in scoring, scoring TDs, receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

AFL Rank 1st 1st 1st
2006 Pace 151 1,918 57
AFL Record 154 1,982 46

MR. AUTOMATIC:

While Damian Harrell and Kyle Moore-Brown are continuing their AFL record streaks, kicker Clay Rush has quietly posted a record streak of his own.

Rush have connected on 46 straight PAT attempts, the longest streak in the AFL since 2004 when Jay Taylor of Orlando made 45 consecutive PATs.

Rush's last missed PAT was over two months ago in the third quarter at Philadelphia (2/26).

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH:

After finishing their inaugural season 0-8 at home, the Crush are now 19-5 under Mike Dailey (2-0 in the postseason) at Pepsi Center. Two of the three losses consist of an overtime field goal by Indiana's kicker Clay Rush (now with Colorado) in 2004, and a 51-48 Chicago win in 2005 on a field goal with three seconds remaining.

BUILDING A WINNING TRADITION:

The Crush are the winningest team in the AFL since head coach Mike Dailey's arrival, having tied for the league's best record in 2004 (11-5) and finishing with the American Conference's top seed in 2005 (10-6).

Team 2004 2005 2006 Total

New York 9 10 8 27
San Jose 11 9 7 27
Chicago 11 9 5 25
Tampa Bay 9 10 6 25
Los Angeles 9 10 3 22

STEEL CURTAIN:

After allowing 14 sacks in 2003 (12 on Dutton), the Crush pass protection has been stellar under head coach Mike Dailey. The team allowed just four sacks in 2004, and none after Week 6 at San Jose (3/14/04). Colorado did not allow a sack in their final 446 offensive plays of the 2004 regular season (10+ games).

The Crush allowed just six sacks in 2005, which includes an unforced fumble by QB John Dutton that the Crush recovered, on the opening play vs. Los Angele (2/27/05). On the 2005 season, Colorado held 10 opponents sackless.

The Crush have now allowed just 13 sacks in their last 37 regular season games (total of 1,739 plays).

IS THAT THE SAME TEAM:

Just one week after scoring a franchise-low 21 points vs. Columbus (3/25), the Crush came back and tied their franchise-high scoring 77 points against Nashville (4/1).

In addition to the team record for points, Colorado also set a club-record for total touchdowns with 11 and set season highs for margin of victory (30), penalties (13) and penalty yardage (74).
The defeat handed Nashville their worst loss ever while, the Kats allowed more points than they ever have -- a history that includes the team's previous incarnation from 1997-2001.
Individually, a few Crush players had career nights against Nashville.
- WR/DB Ahmad Hawkins' two touchdown receptions were a career-high.
- Kicker Clay Rush tied his franchise record of making 11 extra points without a miss, matching the mark he set last year against the Philadelphia Soul, the only other time the Crush has scored 77 points.
- QB John Dutton threw a career-high nine touchdown passes.
- OS Damian Harrell tied his career-high with five touchdown receptions.

OH WHAT A NIGHT:

In a 65-21 loss to the Columbus Destroyers on March 25th, the Crush set several new club records- some good and some not so good.

Colorado committed a record seven turnovers on the night (four fumbles and three interceptions). The previous mark was six turnovers at San Jose (2/22/03).

The Crush's 21-point output was the club's lowest in their four-year history (previous 28 points @ New York 5/21/05).

The 44-point defeat was the second worse in team history only behind a 48-point loss to San Jose (41-89 on 4/22/05).

The lone bright spot on the night was the Crush defense was able to limit the Destroyers to just 173 yards of total offense setting a new team-record (188 @ New York, 4/18/04).

IT'S NOT OVER TILL IT'S OVER:

Since head coach Mike Dailey has arrived in Colorado in 2004, the Crush have claimed victory in the final minute of the game in six contests. Both of the Crush wins in 2006 have come down to the final 60 seconds of play.

2004
- vs. Las Vegas (2/6)- QB John Dutton tosses two touchdown passes to OS Damian Harrell in the final 12 seconds to give Colorado a stunning 43-42 victory.

- at Detroit (5/23)- QB John Dutton found WR/DB Willis Marshall for a 10-yard touchdown pass with one second on the clock as the Crush won 45-42.

2005
- vs. Nashville (5/13)- K Clay Rush splits the uprights on a 31-yard field goal as time expires to give Colorado a 52-49 win.

- vs. Georgia (6/12)- K Clay Rush connects on a 20-yard field goal as time expires to give the Crush a 56-48 victory in ArenaBowl XIX.

2006
- vs. Chicago (1/29)- QB John Dutton hits OS Damian Harrell for a touchdown with one second remaining as the Crush go on to win 65-56.

- at Georgia (2/5)- QB John Dutton finds OS Damian Harrell for a 13-yard touchdown with 45 seconds left to lift Colorado to a 61-59 victory.

ALL-PURPOSE MARSHALL:

Following his selection to the All-Ironman team last season, Willis Marshall is making a case to make it two years in a row.

Against Grand Rapids (3/5), Marshall amassed 275 all-purpose yards, the second highest single-game total in team history (291- Willis Marshall, vs. San Jose 4/22/05).

His 198 kickoff return yards vs. the Rampage were also second all-time in club history (227- Willis Marshall, vs. San Jose 4/22/05).

Currently, he stands fourth in the AFL in all-purpose yards with 2,185 on the season (52 rushing, 762 receiving and 1,371 return).

MAN OF STEEL:

A true AFL Ironman, Kyle Moore-Brown is in his 12th season in the league and has never missed a game. ArenaBowl XIX marked his AFL record 176th consecutive start. The first 139 all came with the Firebirds organization before he signed with the Crush prior to the 2004 season.

With Grand Rapids OL/DL Otis Moore missing two games in 2005, Moore-Brown now stands alone in the record books with 171 straight regular season games. Each had appeared in every game since 1995, with Moore-Brown having the overall edge with more playoff appearances.

A BROKEN RECORD:

Damian Harrell has caught a touchdown pass in an AFL record 62 straight regular season games, including all 58 games as a member of the Crush. That streak is also the longest active streak of consecutive games scoring a TD. He broke the record for consecutive games with a receiving touchdown on 4/3/05 in the win over Las Vegas. It is also second-longest streak of consecutive games with a TD. Harrell's streak began with the Toronto Phantoms vs. Carolina on 7/4/02.

THE STREAK STOPS HERE:

In Week 2, with the Crush's 61-59 victory over Georgia, Colorado snapped the Force's 11-game regular season home winning streak. Georgia's steak was tied for the third longest in AFL history. The Force had also won two playoff games in Philips Arena pushing their mark to 13 straight home games before the lost to Colorado.

Three weeks later, the Crush ended the Philadelphia Soul's perfect mark at home for the 2006 season. The Soul had started the year a perfect 3-0 at the Wachovia Center before Colorado captured a 48-38 victory on 2/26/06.

In a Week 7 contest at Chicago (3/10), the Crush broke through for their first-ever victory in Allstate Arena in three times with a 49-42 win. The victory also gave Colorado their first-ever season sweep over the Rush.
