AFL names players of the week

April 25, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release


NEW YORK - Grand Rapids Rampage WR/DB TIMON MARSHALL, Kansas City Brigade QB CHRIS SANDERS and Utah Blaze DS THAL WOODS have been named Ironman, Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 13 of the 2006 season.

IRONMAN: Marshall (5-10, 190, Ottawa), who is in his second AFL season, recorded seven receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown and 6.0 tackles and one pass break-up in Grand Rapids 45-42 home win over Arizona on Sunday. He added three kickoff returns for 28 yards.

OFFENSIVE: Sanders (6-2, 215, Tennessee-Chattanooga), who is in his second AFL season, completed 24-of-30 passes for 291 yards and six touchdowns, including the game-winner to SAM SIMMONS with just 39 seconds remaining, in the Kansas City's 58-52 win at Nashville on Saturday. He added nine rushes for 24 yards and two additional scores and a two-point conversion in the first road win for the Brigade franchise.

ADT DEFENSIVE: Woods (5-9, 175, Colorado State), who is in his third AFL season, recorded 5.5 total tackles, one interception and one pass breakup in Utah's 52-40 win over the defending ArenaBowl champion Colorado Crush on Friday night in Denver. Woods' second-quarter interception halted a Crush drive and helped set up a touchdown that gave the Blaze a 21-19 halftime lead.

Ironman of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Etu Molden, Columbus' B.J. Barre, Dallas' Will Pettis, New York's DaShane Dennis, Orlando's Kevin Nagle and Utah's Justin Skaggs.

Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Matt D'Orazio and Bobby Sippio, Dallas' Clint Dolezel and Terrill Shaw, New York's Nick Browder, San Jose's James Roe and Utah's Andy Kelly.

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Curtis Eason, Columbus' Brandon Hefflin, Dallas' Colston Weatherington, Grand Rapid 's Johnnie Harris, New York's Andrew Tippins and Orlando's Kenny McEntyre.
