KENNEWICK, WA- The Prince George Cougars (18-21-1-1) opened February with a 2-0 shutout win over the Tri-City Americans (12-23-4-0) at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, WA Tuesday.
Tyler Brennan earned his third shutout of the season as he stopped all 24 shots he faced. Brennan was named the game's first star. Connor Bowie and Caden Brown supplied the offence in the first two periods.
The Cougars continue their six-game U.S. Division road trip tomorrow, February 2nd, against the Spokane Chiefs (11-23-3-1).
FIRST PERIOD
Bowie opened the scoring with just 17 seconds left in the first period. On the power-play, Hudson Thornton had his point shot redirected by Bowie through the goaltender's pads from the top of the crease. It was Bowie's third power play marker of the season. Tri-City outshot the Cougars 9-0 in the first 10 minutes of the frame, but Prince George stormed back and outshot the Americans 15-2 in the final half of the period.
SECOND PERIOD
Prince George added to their lead late in the middle frame. Brown scored the insurance marker at 16:23 of the second. Carter MacAdams chipped the puck ahead to a streaking Brown, who raced down the right wing and fired over the goalie's glove for his fourth goal. The Cougars surrendered just five shots in the frame.
THIRD PERIOD
There was no scoring in the final frame and the Cougars allowed just 13 shots over the final two periods on Tuesday. Tri-City had just eight shots in the final 20 minutes.
