Pats Aim to Snap Skid Versus Saskatoon

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats (16-19-0-1) took to snap their two game skid on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., against the Saskatoon Blades (21-15-1-1) inside the Brandt Centre.

The Regina Pats are coming off a 0-2 weekend, losing to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, 6-4 and on Saturday in Moose Jaw against the Warriors, 4-1. On Saturday, the Pats fell behind 1-0 but were able to climb back in, as Tye Spencer scored his first as a Pat' to tie it up at one. Atley Calvert would go onto score a natural hat-trick, leading the Warriors to victory.

The final shots were 34-28 for the Pats. Drew Sim was saddled with the loss. The Warriors went 1-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Regina is now 3-2-0-1 over their last six games and hold a 7-5-1 record over their last 13 games, with all of those victories coming on home ice. The Pats are also off to a 4-3-0-1 second-half start, having outscored their opponents 34-to-30 during that time. The Pats have defeated Prince Albert, Moose Jaw (2x) and Edmonton during that time with losses to Winnipeg, Calgary, Brandon and Moose Jaw.

For the Blades, they coming off a 3-0 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Sunday, which was their first contest since January 22nd after they had three games postponed last week. The loss for the Blades snapped their four game winning-streak where they defeated Winnipeg (7-2), Medicine Hat (9-2), Swift Current twice (4-1 & 6-4). They have won their last five road games coming in.

The Blades are 12 points ahead of the Pats in the WHL standings, currently sitting in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, while the Pats are ninth and two points out of eighth.

The Blades feature two of the leagues top scorers with Kyle Crnkovic (3rd, 57-PTS) and Tristen Robins (9th, 52-PTS) while 20-year-old goaltender Nolan Maier ranks third in minutes (1,868), fourth in saves (881) and fifth in wins (17). Speaking of wins, his 108 wins in his WHL career which is 12 away from the league record of 120.

This will mark the third of six meetings this season. These two clubs last met on October 22nd and 24th, with the Blades sweeping the home-and-home.

Last season, the Regina Pats went 1-3 against the Saskatoon Blades, dropping the first three meetings 6-3, 7-3 and 4-1 before winning the fourth and final meeting 4-2 on April 20th. The Blades are 8-1-2 over their last 11 meetings against the Pats, dating back to the start of the 2019-20 season.

The Pats are 206-208-27-12-6 vs. the Blades, all-time.

HEADLINES

New Pats forward Tye Spencer scored his first with the Regiment on Saturday night in Moose Jaw. He was acquired in a trade from the Kamloops Blazers for Drew Englot at the WHL Trade Deadline on Jan. 17. He had 11 points (3G-8A) in 32 games with the Blazers.

Zack Stringer will miss tonight's game with a lower body injury. His timetable for returning to the Pats lineup is TBD. The Pats now have five players on the injured list as Adam McNutt is out indefinite, Jacob Brook is out 4-6 weeks while Zane Rowan and Jake Johnson remain. Jaxsin Vaughan will join the team tonight.

BY THE NUMBERS

23: Points (10G-13A) over Connor Bedard's last 10 games...his nine game point-streak was snapped on Saturday in Moose Jaw, which was the second longest of his WHL career...he is second in the WHL in shots (168), averaging 5.60 shots per game (1st: POR - James Stefan, 169).

24.1: Average shots against per game, and 36.5 shots for per game (219 SF / 145 SA) over the Regina Pats last six games, where the Pats have given up less than 30 shots in five of those six contests...overall, they rank fourth in the Eastern Conference in average shots against this year (30.00).
