JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 1, 2011) - The Generals and Braves combined for 32 hits on Monday night as the M-Braves held off Jackson 10-7 at Pringles Park. Jackson trailed by as many as eight runs, but the comeback fell short by three runs after a rally in the ninth. Mississippi's win evened the series at 1-1. Francisco Martinez and Chih-Hsien Chiang made their Generals debuts since being acquired in trades by Seattle over the weekend. Martinez finished 1-for-5 with an RBI and run scored, while Chiang was 2-for-5 with two runs. Chiang has hit in 17-straight games between Double-A Portland and Jackson.
Carlos Triunfel had three more hits on Monday night and finished 3-for-5 with a run scored, increasing his hitting streak to seven games. Jesus Sucre was 3-for-5 against his former team with three doubles and a season high three RBI's. Chiang, Rich Poythress, Scott Savastano and Vinnie Catricala had two hits each. Poythress upped his hitting streak to eight games. Dan Nelson was 3-for-4 for the Braves with three RBI's. Eight of nine starters for the Braves had a hit.
The pitching matchup was a battle between two pitchers just up from High-A. Jackson starter James Gillheeney (0-1) lasted just three innings and surrendered five runs on eight hits. Mississippi starter Zeke Spruill (1-0) won his Double-A debut dealing six innings and surrendering four runs (three earned) on 10 hits.

Mississippi continued to have success against Gillheeney in the second inning and scored three more runs. Antoan Richardson drove in two with a double and Nelson collected his second RBI single. The Braves increased the advantage to 5-0.
Jesus Sucre put Jackson on the board in the bottom of the second inning by scoring Rich Poythress with a two out double. Sucre's double against his former team made the score 5-1.
The Braves added two more runs against Jackson reliever Tayor Stanton in the top of the fifth. Willy Cabrera and Cory Haffilchak produced the RBI's. Vinnie Catricala drove in Triunfel in the bottom of the fifth with a double and the score was 7-2 after the first five innings.
The Braves would score three more runs in the sixth inning and Jackson plated two runs in the bottom of half of the inning to make the score 10-4.
Jackson scored three more runs in the ninth, but reliever Billy Bullock slammed the door with two outs in the ninth to cut the rally short.
