Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

ROME, GA - William Contreras homered and Kyle Muller gave up three runs over 6.1 innings as Rome topped the BlueClaws 8-5 on Thursday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium.

The BlueClaws (15-12) dropped two of three in the series to the Braves (16-10) after Lakewood had won their previous three series.

The BlueClaws trailed 8-1 but brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, though Rodolfo Duran grounded out to short to end the game.

Rome opened the scoring in the second inning on a two-runs ingle by Jose Bermudez off Spencer Howard. He drove in Drew Lugbauer and Jean Carlos Encarnacion, who had both reached on walks earlier in the inning after Howard had walked just two in his first four starts of the year. Luis Mejia scored on a wild pitch to cap the three-run inning.

In the third, William Contreras took Howard deep over the right field wall for his second home run of the year, putting the Braves up 5-0.

Howard (2-2) took the loss, allowing five runs in three innings.

Yahir Gurrola got Lakewood on the board in the fifth with his first home run of the season.

The BlueClaws would add three runs on five hits in the seventh, getting RBI singles from Dalton Guthrie, Jake Scheiner, and Daniel Brito to pull within 8-4.

Colby Fitch added an RBI single in the ninth but Duran grounded out to end the game as the tying run.

Muller (3-0) gave up three runs in 6.1 innings, matching his longest outing of the season, in earning his third win of the season.

Brito, Nieporte, Duran, Guthrie, and Gurrola all had two hits in the loss for the BlueClaws.

The BlueClaws head to Columbia and open a four-game series with the Fireflies on Friday. LHP Damon Jones (1-1) starts for Lakewood opposite LHP Jake Simon (0-3).
