Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Backed by a dominant performance on the mound from Lincoln Henzman (W, 2-2), who carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, the Intimidators (17-10) finished off the three-game Hickory sweep with a 7-5 win on a Thursday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Atrium Health.

The I's jumped on the board in a big way in the third inning, as Carlos Perez doubled (4) on a line drive to left fielder Justin Jacobs, followed by a Nolan Brown single to center field to put runners at the corners for Luis Gonzalez. On the first pitch of the at-bat to Gonzalez, Brown stole (3) second base to get into scoring position, just to score five pitches later after a double (4) on a sharp ground ball down the base line that rolled all the way to the wall.

One batter later, Laz Rivera smoked a single up the middle on a 1-1 pitch to score Gonzalez and give the I's a 3-0 lead. After a Craig Dedelow double (10) into right field on the first pitch of his at-bat, that scored Rivera, Tate Blackman homered (4) on a moon shot down the left field line, giving Kannapolis a 6-0 lead. But the Intimidators were not done just yet. Two batters later, Evan Skoug laid into a 3-2 pitch, sending it 408 feet to right-center for his second homer of the season, extending the I's lead to seven runs.

Pitching into the seventh inning, Henzman gave up a solo homer (1) to Justin Jacobs to right-center for the 'Dads' (8-17) first run of the game. One batter later, the former Louisville Cardinal struck out Tyler Ratliff on three straight pitches to cap off a six-strikeout day, while only giving up three hits on one run.

Although Hickory made the game interesting in the eighth, scoring four runs on five walks issued by Yosmer Solorzano and Jake Elliot (S, 1), Elliot worked a 1,2,3 ninth inning to give the Intimidators their second sweep of the season under manager Justin Jirschele.

Kannapolis will remain at home as they host the Hagerstown Suns for a four-game series starting Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Friday night's game is Star Wars Night, where the players and coaches will have their jerseys auctioned off during/after the game for all fans, followed by postgame fireworks.
