Rome Emperors News Release
ROME, GA - Big nights from David McCabe and Keshawn Ogans helped lift the Braves over the Winston-Salem Dash Friday night, 5-3.
The Braves held onto a 1-0 lead through four innings after a couple of base knocks from Baldwin and McCabe in the first. Starter Daniel Martinez held his own in the center of the diamond, tossing five innings, punching out five, and surrendering just one earned. A fielding error in the fifth allowed two to score on Martinez and signaled the end of his night. Jared Johnson was first in relief of Martinez and let up one in the sixth to push Winston-Salem's lead out to 3-1.
The stretch woke up Rome's offense in the seventh. Nacho Alvarez singled on a line drive to left to open the frame. A walk to Drake Baldwin put men on first and second for McCabe who would drive in his second and third runners of the night on double to left center. The following inning, it was the heart of the order making noise again in a 3-3 ballgame. An Ogans single to center brought in two more and the Braves cruised the rest of the way to ensure at least a series split with the Dash.
Miguel Pena notched his fourth decision of the year after covering innings seven and eight without allowing a hit. Rob Griswold was called upon to collect his seventh save of the year and did so without a hitch. A win tomorrow would give the Braves their first series victory since late May. 2023 first rounder Hurston Waldrep toes the slab tomorrow at 5:00 pm EDT.
