
Braves outslug Bats

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Louisville Bats 9-7 at The Diamond Saturday. The Braves batted around twice and scored nine runs for the second straight night to win the first of a two game series.
The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Brayan Pena following a Brandon Jones triple. The Bats tied the game in the fifth on an RBI single by Jorge Cantu. Richmond batted around in the home half, scoring four runs to take a 5-1 lead. Pete Orr and Martin Prado singled runs home. Pena drew a bases loaded walk. Doug Clark knocked in a run with a ground out. The Bats trimmed the Braves lead to 5-3 in the sixth on an RBI single by Chad Moeller and a throwing error. Jay Bruce chased a run home with a double in the seventh to trim the Braves lead to one. The Braves responded by batting around again in the home half to score three more runs. Pena and Clark had RBI singles and Gregor Blanco forced in a run with a bases-jammed walk. Louisville again pulled to within a run, scoring three times in the eighth. Cantu singled a run in and Aaron Herr doubled two home. The Braves added insurance in the eighth when Prado scored on a wild pitch.
Buddy Hernandez collected the win. Chad Paronto picked up a save. Tom Shearn took the loss. Prado had three hits for the Braves. Five Bats had two hits each.
