
Braves Gain Series Lead With 8-3 Win Over Tribe

INDIANAPOLIS -- Richmond broke open an even contest with six runs in the top of the fifth to defeat Indianapolis, 8-3, Sunday afternoon at Victory Field.
The Braves improve to 9-4 with their second win of the series, while the Indians fall to 10-5 overall.
Seven Richmond hitters reached base safely after two outs had been recorded in the fifth. The inning was highlighted by SS Yunel Escobar's first roundtripper of the season -- a two-run shot to left center. 2B Martin Prado, LF Doug Clark, RF Bill McCarthy, 1B Barbaro Canizares and C Iker Franco also reached the plate in the inning.
The Indians were led by 1B Yurendell de Caster, who went 2-for-2 with a run and three walks. RF Michael Ryan and 3B Russ Johnson also collected a pair of base knocks, while CF Nyjer Morgan stole his IL leading ninth and 10th bases.
The Braves were led by 3B Wes Timmons, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Prado, Canizares and Franco also picked up a pair of hits.
Richmond RHP Buddy Hernandez (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO) earned his second win of the year, while Indians RHP Marty McLeary (4.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO) suffered his first loss of the season.
The clubs return to Victory Field for the series finale on Monday at 7 p.m. RHP Trey Hodges is scheduled to start for Richmond, while LHP Sean Burnett is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.
