April 22, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release
After last night's blowout win, the Lynx showed they can win the close ones, too, squeaking by Scranton 4-3. The Lynx head on the road having won 5 of 6 in the friendly confines of Lynx Stadium and 6 of their last 7 overall.
The win takes the Lynx record over .500 for the first time this season (7-6) and drops the Yankees to 7-9.
Player Of The Game: DH Gary Burnham had two hits to bump his team-leading batting average to .405. He also drove in a run as the Lynx knocked off the Yankees 4-3.
Game Recap: The Lynx picked up right where they left off after last night's 17-run explosion, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1st and another in the 2nd. Gary Burnham got the scoring started, driving in Joe Thurston with an RBI single. Chris Coste brought Jason Jaramillo home on his force out. In the second, Joe Thurston drove Brennan King home, staking starter J.A. Happ to a 3-0 lead. Happ, who went into this game having not surrendered a run this season, put in another quality start. Happ finally gave up a run in the 3rd and another in the 5th, but he left with the Lynx holding on to a 3-2 lead, having struck out 6 Yankees. The Lynx scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning when Jim Rushford singled home Jason Jaramillo. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tacked on a run in the 9th but it was too little too late and the Lynx head back out on to the road having won 6 of their last 7 games.
Next Game: The Lynx and Yankees have Monday off before renewing hostilities for the first of a three-game series Tuesday night in Scranton.
Probable Pitchers: Tuesday @ Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 7:00 pm, Ottawa LHP Brian Mazone (1-1, 2.50) takes on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RHP Phil Hughes (2-1, 3.94)
