Indianapolis, IN - The Richmond Braves beat the Indianapolis Indians 8-3 Sunday at Victory Field. The Braves erupted for six runs in the fifth to beat the Indians for the second straight day.
The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by starting pitcher Marty McLeary. The Braves jumped in front with two runs in the third. Wes Timmons smacked a home run and Martin Prado knocked in a run with an RBI fielder's choice. The Indians tied it right back up at two in the bottom half on an RBI single by Russ Johnson. Yunel Escobar put the Braves in front to stay with a two-run homer in the fifth. A misplayed fly ball of the bat of Barbaro Canizares allowed two more runs to score. Iker Franco chased a run home with a double to make it 7-2. Timmons capped the rally with a run scoring single. The Indians added a run in the seventh on an RBI double by former R-Brave Michael Ryan.
Buddy Hernandez struck out four in two innings to earn the win. McLeary took the loss. Timmons, Canizares, Prado, and Franco all had two hits each for the Braves. Yurendell DeCaster had two hits and three walks for the Indians.
Just prior to Sunday's game the Braves placed RHP Rich Scalamandre on the Disabled List. The Braves added RHP Jeff Bennett from Double-A Mississippi where he had an ERA of 4.15 in six appearances.
The Braves and Indians wrap up their four game series Monday at Victory Field at 7 PM. Trey Hodges chucks for the Braves against Sean Burnett.
