Mississippi Braves News Release
BILOXI, MS - For the second game in a row, Mississippi took a lead to the bottom of the 8th inning only to lose the lead and the game to Biloxi by a score of 5-4. With the win the Shuckers claim the series win while the Braves will hope to salvage a couple of victories as the series continues until Sunday. Saturday's game is in doubt due to weather stormy weather forecast for the Gulf Coast.
The Braves struck first as Michael Reed led off the game with a walk and advanced to second on Alay Lago's single. Reed stole third and both he and Lago scored on Alex Jackson's single to give Mississippi (3-5) a 2-0 lead after the first frame.
Biloxi (7-1) made it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the second when Blake Allemand led off with a double, advanced to third on Jake Hagar's ground out and scored on a ground out by Dustin Houle.
Reed led off the third inning with his second free pass, advanced to third on a double by Lago and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Neslony extending the Braves lead to 3-1.
A pitcher's duel broke out for the next four innings as all zeros were put up on the board until the bottom of the eighth when the Shuckers exploded for four runs to take a 5-3 lead. Former MBrave, Dylan Moore lead off with a single to center field then was forced out at second base on a fielders' choice by Corey Ray. Troy Stokes, Jr. singled advancing Ray to third. After a walk to Lucas Erceg, Nick Franklin singled to score Ray. Jake Gatewood reached on a fielders' choice error by Mike Snyder allowing Stokes and Erceg to score giving Biloxi a 4-3 lead. Hagar hit a sacrifice fly plating Franklin to give the Shuckers their 5th run.
The Braves tried to battle back in the ninth scoring one run after Mike Snyder led off with a single to right and later scored on Luis Valenzuela's single to right. But the Braves comeback fell one run short.
Saturday night, Mississippi will send LHP Ricardo Sanchez (0-1, 3.00) to the mound to face RHP Thomas Jankins (1-0, 0.00) for Biloxi. First pitch from MGM Park in Biloxi will be 6:35 PM CT.
