Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho –The Anchorage Aces allowed as many as nine goals for the third time in four games on their current road trip in a 9-5 loss to first-place Idaho before 4,853 Friday night at the Bank of America Centre.

Anchorage jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Eric Landry blasted a slap shot five-hole on Idaho netminder Jason Cugnet at 3:39 of the first period. The Steelheads needed just 23 seconds to tie the score, as Dampy Brar flipped a backhander over a prostrate Christian Soucy, who started between the pipes for the Aces. Jeff Shevalier banked a shot from behind the net off the back of Soucy at 11:08 to give Idaho its first lead at 2-1. Brar pushed the gap to 3-1 with another backhander three minutes later, but Anchorage rallied on its power play. Paul Williams beat two Idaho defenders with a brilliant coast-to-coast rush before setting up Kevin McNeill for a one-timer that brought the Aces to within 3-2 at the 17:35 mark. But once again, Brar had an almost immediate reply, finishing off his first period hat trick only 46 seconds after McNeill's goal to give Idaho a 4-2 edge after the opening 20 minutes.

Ryan Moren, who had arrived in Boise only a few hours prior to the game after taking a brief personal leave from the team, fired a slapper that sailed through a screened Cugnet two minutes into the second period on another Aces' power play to slice the gap to 4-3. After Derek Paget increased Idaho's lead to two goals with a marker at 10:51, Tim Donnelly (who also contributed a pair of assists) closed the deficit to 5-4 with his second goal of the year on another drive from the point at 12:02. Two minutes later, Marty Flichel scored the first of his two goals of the evening, and when Shevalier tipped in his second of the night at the 16:50 mark, Idaho was back in command, carrying a 7-4 lead into the final period.

After Flichel scored just 2:24 into the third period on a Steelhead power play, B.J. Young answered with Anchorage's third power play goal of the night at 5:23 in what proved to be a last gasp. The Aces mustered only two other third period shots while Scott Swanson converted another Idaho power play midway through the final frame to account for the final margin of victory. Anchorage has given up hat tricks to the opposition in seven of its last 13 games.

Yvan Corbin did not register a point for the first time in 11 games and also had his seven-game goal-scoring streak snapped as the Aces (12-37-2 overall) lost their fifth in a row. Anchorage and Idaho, now unbeaten in its last 10 and 37-10-4 overall, meet again tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. AST. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
