D.C. United News Release

Washington, D.C. (May 16, 2011) - D.C. United announced today that Branko Boskovic has undergone successful surgery to repair a torn left Anterior Cruciate Ligament. The procedure was performed by Doctor James Gilbert of Metro Orthopedics and Sports Therapy in Silver Spring, Md. The Montenegrin National Team player suffered the injury on April 26 in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play-in match against the New England Revolution.

"We are pleased that Branko has undergone successful surgery, and we expect him to make a full recovery over the coming months," said General Manager Dave Kasper.

Entering his first full season with the Black-and-Red, Boskovic was emerging as a potent attacking threat for United in the early part of 2011. Boskovic played in four League games this season, recording 124 minutes. He added his best match of the campaign in a U.S. Open Cup qualifier - the same contest he was injured - scoring twice against the Revolution on April 26. The midfielder is expected to miss six months of action during his rehabilitation. Boskovic joined D.C. United last season as a Designated Player on June 14, 2010, appearing in 13 games and starting eight of those contests over the course of the season. After joining the Black-and-Red, Boskovic maintained his duties as vice-captain of the Montenegrin National Team, which enjoyed a 3-1-0 record in UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying during the course of the MLS season. Before joining United, Boskovic played for Rapid Vienna of the Austrian Bundesliga from 2006 through 2010. Boskovic appeared in 122 matches for Rapid, scoring 24 goals in all competitions.
