Brandon Manning Re-Signs with Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they have re-signed restricted free-agent defenseman Brandon Manning to a one-year contract, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

Brandon Manning, 24 (6/4/1990) is entering his fourth season of professional hockey. The native of Prince George, B.C. has played 184 games for the Phantoms over the past three seasons while also appearing in 10 games for Philadelphia in his career. Manning is a left-handed shooter who checks in at 6'1", 195 lbs. He has served as a Phantoms assistant captain for the past two seasons.

"Man-Dog" set career highs last season with eight goals, 23 assists and 31 points while racking up 231 penalty minutes in 73 games played. One of his top performances last season came on December 20, 2013 at the Norfolk Admirals in which he posted a two-goal game while also recording a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" (goal, assist and fight in the same game). It was the second Gordie Howe Hatty of his career having also posted one the previous season. He began last season with his second career overtime goal notching the winning tally at the Hershey Bears on October 5, 2013.

Manning played in the AHL All-Star Classic January 28, 2013 in Providence, R.I. skating for the Eastern Conference team.

On his career with the Phantoms, Manning has scored 20-51-71 with 447 penalty minutes. At the NHL level, Manning has registered two assists. He played in six games for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2012-13 and also appeared in four games in 2011-12. He made his NHL debut on March 8, 2012 in a home game against the Florida Panthers. He recorded his first NHL point with an assist on April 16, 2013 vs. the New York Rangers.

With 184 career games for the Phantoms, Manning rates third among players currently in the organization trailing only Jason Akeson (208) and Oliver Lauridsen (189).

Manning signed with the Flyers organization as a free agent out of the Chilliwack Bruins of the Western Hockey League where he had served as team captain while leading the league in defensemen scoring in 2010-11 posting 21 goals and 53 points.
