Phantoms Unveil Schedule for Inaugural Season in PPL Center

The American Hockey League and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, have unveiled the schedule for the team's inaugural 2014-15 regular season. The Phantoms' return to Pennsylvania brings the same nearby and intense rivalries that became so popular with Phantoms fans in the past with several great match-ups on tap against the Washington Capitals' affiliate Hershey Bears, the Pittsburgh Penguins' affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and the Binghamton Senators, affiliate of the Ottawa Senators.
The American Hockey League has provided a sentimental start for the Phantoms. The Inaugural Regular Season Home Opener will be played on Friday, October 17 in the brand new, state-of-the-art PPL Center. The game matches the Lehigh Valley Phantoms against the Adirondack Flames who join the league representing the Phantoms' previous home.
After playing in the Spectrum in Philadelphia for 13 seasons from 1996 through 2009, the Phantoms moved to Glens Falls, N.Y. and played as the Adirondack Phantoms for the past five seasons. During that time, the Phantoms helped the Adirondack community build a financial model designed to lure a new team to the region upon the completion of the Phantoms new home, PPL Center in Allentown. The Calgary Flames moved their AHL affiliate to Adirondack immediately after the Phantoms finished this past season. So while the game will be a celebration of firsts for PPL Center and Lehigh Valley, it will also mark a celebration by Adirondack for the successful efforts of the Phantoms in helping them lure another team.
The Phantoms and their renewed rivals immediately get familiar during the regular season's opening month of October. The Phantoms open the season on the road in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday, October 11, host the Hershey Bears on Friday, October 24, visit the Binghamton Senators on Saturday, October 25, and then travel to Hershey on Sunday, October 26. The Phantoms close out the month at PPL Center on Wednesday, October 29 vs. the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
"We are extremely excited and pleased with our schedule. It gives us great pride to be able to bring top notch professional hockey to the Lehigh Valley," said Phantoms executive vice president Chris Porreca. "We begin by welcoming the new Adirondack Flames team who are following in our footsteps at our previous home in Glens Falls. The expectation is that our new home, PPL Center, will really be electric when we drop the puck on the inaugural season."
Over 70% of the Phantoms home game (27 out of 38) are on weekends; including 14 Saturdays, 10 Fridays and three Sundays.
Fans will see 16 different opponents in PPL Center during the Inaugural Season of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Last season's Eastern Conference Champions and Calder Cup runner-ups, the St. John's IceCaps (Newfoundland, Canada - affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets) visit on Saturday, November 22 and Saturday, January 24. The affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, the Manchester Monarchs, visit Sunday, March 29. The New York Rangers' affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack invade PPL Center on Saturday, November 1 and Saturday, February 21. The Boston Bruins' affiliate Providence Bruins come to Allentown on Friday, February 20. And the Toronto Maple Leafs' affiliate Toronto Marlies arrive Saturday, November 15.
The Phantoms will also play host to the New Jersey Devils' affiliate Albany Devils two times in January (Friday, January 16 and Thursday, January 29); and will also play the Devils two times in Atlantic City.
It's going to be a great season! And it all starts on Friday, October 17 against the Adirondack Flames in the official regular-season debut of professional hockey in the Lehigh Valley!

Opening Night for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms is Friday, October 17 against the Adirondack Flames. The official start of the inaugural season of professional hockey at PPL Center will also feature a Phantoms Magnet Schedule Giveaway for the fans.
