Brahmas Lose on the Road to Bees
November 4, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 4) - The Brahmas were unable to score in Rio Grande Valley, falling to the Bees 1-0.
After 19 minutes of scoreless hockey, the Killer Bees were able to sneak a goal past Texas netminder Steve Silverthorn with under one minute remaining in the first period behind an Aaron Lee wrister. For Lee, it was his fourth goal of the young season, having scored in each of the previous three games as well.
At the 15:01 mark of the second period, the Brahmas had a chance to tie the score as Kyle Howarth was awarded a penalty shot, but Bees goalie Dan Dunn denied the Texas forward with a kick save. The Brahmas put 10 shots on goal in the frame, but the second period ended as the first one did, with Rio Grande Valley holding on to a 1-0 lead.
Bees' starting goalie Dan Dunn saved all 18 shots he faced in the first two periods, but Rio Grande Valley opened up the third frame with John Murray in net. But whether it was Dunn or Murray in the game, the Brahmas could not find a way to put one in the back of the net, as the two Killer Bee goaltenders combined for a shutout.
The Brahmas were 0-3 on the powerplay Friday night, remaining scoreless for the year with an extra man. Texas has scored only six goals in their first five games, as they fall to 1-4 on the season.
Steve Silverthorn made 22 saves on 23 Rio Grande Valley shots, but the combination of Dunn and Murray proved too tough for the Brahmas. Texas looks to Saturday night for win number two when they face off against the Laredo Bucks at 7:30pm before heading home to take on the Missouri Mavericks at the NYTEX Sports Centre on Tue, November 8 at 7:00pm.
