Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. (June 5, 2015) - The Bradenton Marauders beat the Fort Myers Miracle, 6-2, at McKechnie Field on Friday evening.
Miracle starter Chih-Wei Hu suffered his first loss after giving up six runs including a four-run first inning to the Marauder offense. The Miracle carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first after an RBI groundout from Marcus Knecht.
In the bottom of the first, the Marauders loaded the bases with one out. JaCoby Jones hit a chopper to third base. Niko Goodrum attempted to start a double play, but Jones beat out Ryan Walker's turn from second to bring in a run. Hu (4-1) then surrendered a three-run homer to Harold Ramirez. On an 0-2 pitch, Ramirez sent a drive to deep left field that cleared the bases and put the Marauders up 4-1.
Bradenton added to the lead in the second. Edwin Espinal singled into right to start the inning then scored on an RBI double into left center off the bat of Wyatt Mathisen, 5-1. The Marauders lead extended to 6-1 in the third on run-scoring base hit from Reese McGuire.
Hu exited the game after a season-low 3.2 innings and six runs, five earned, on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
The Miracle did get a second run in the fourth inning without the benefit of a hit. Knecht reached first on an error from MLB rehabber and shortstop Justin Sellers, then took second on a wild pitch. Mitch Garver advanced Knecht to third on a deep fly out to center and then Bryan Haar drove in the run with a sacrifice fly, 6-2.
Those two runs would be the only two allowed, both unearned by Marauders starter Jayson Aquino. Over six innings, Aquino (3-5) gave up four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
The Marauder and Miracle bullpens did not allow a run. Alex Muren and Todd Van Steensel combined for 4.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Miracle and six strikeouts.
The Miracle (25-30) host the series finale against the Marauders (26-29) at Hammond Stadium for Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the ballpark and breast cancer survivors, along with friends and family, are invited to participate in a pregame walk on the field. The Miracle will also host Fort Myers Brewery in a Tap Takeover at the third base bar. Five delicious Fort Myers Brewery beers will be on draft including a special batch of the Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter.
Fort Myers will be wearing special pink jerseys during the game that will be available for bids in a silent auction through the sixth inning along with other great items. After the game, the Miracle will light up the Southwest Florida sky with a pyrotechnic display of fireworks. Fans can purchase tickets at www.miraclebaseball.com or by calling (239) 768-4210.
