Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (25 - 30) dropped game two against the St. Lucie Mets and evened the season series at four games apiece. In tonight's loss, the Cardinals could only score one run in the bottom of the ninth, unable to rally from the three run deficit. Tonight's final score was 5 - 3.
On the mound for the Beach Birds was Rob Kaminsky, starting his tenth game of the season. The Mets were able to locate his pitches early, producing three runs off five hits in the first two innings. An error in the second plated two runs for St. Lucie, adding only one earned run to Kaminsky's total. He pitched five complete innings, walked one, and struck out four.
After St. Lucie scored three in the second, the Beach birds answered, scoring one run in both the second and third inning. In the bottom of the second, Luke Voit started the inning with his first hit of the game. Jake Gronsky and Jimmy Bosco were issued walks, loading the bases for Derek Gibson. Gibson grounded into a fielder's choice, but scored Voit, collecting his first RBI as a Beach Bird.
The next inning, C.J. McElroy Jr. was issued a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out, and eventually scored on Voit's second hit of the game. With just one out and runners on second and third, Carson Kelly and Gronsky struck out to end the inning.
After five innings of a 3 - 2 ballgame, Chris Perry came to the mound to shut down the Mets in their last chance to extend the lead. Perry walked Phillip Evans, the first batter he faced.. With a runner on first, Perry got the next two batters on a strikeout and fly out. Dominic Smith, who had been 0 - 4 on the night, smacked a double to right field, scoring Evans from first. Smith crossed home plate after Amed Rosario collected the Mets' 13th hit of the game.
