New York Boulders News Release
(Worcester, MA, August 27) - Keith Brachold belted home runs in his first two at bats, leading the Rockland Boulders to snap their 13-game losing streak with a 7-6 win against the Worcester Tornadoes at Hanover Fitton Park. Brachold drove in four runs, and homers by Landis Wilson and Phil Cuadrado helped the Boulders get back into the win column. Brachold's homers were numbers 28 and 29 on the season, moving him two behind the Can-Am's All Time single season mark of 31 set by Quebec's Eddie Lantigua in 2005.
Chris Valencia led off the game with a double and moved up on Qualon Millender's single, with Brachold's first homer of the night off Worcester's Michael Gedman giving Rockland a quick 3-0 lead. Boulders starter Will Hassett never got on track, yielding three walks and a hit to the first four batters before giving way to reliever Eric Federico. The damage was done as the hosts rallied to deadlock the score after just one frame.
Rockland quickly regained the lead in the second on Wilson's homer, and another in the third on Brachold's second of the game to make it 5-3. The Tornadoes grabbed the lead in the third when Cam Monger tripled in two run and came in to score on a grounder to make the score 6-5. Chris Valencia's sac fly in the fourth brought in Cole Kraft to tie the game once again, and Cuadrado came through with what would be the deciding shot in the fifth, taking Gedman deep.
Federico worked four innings in relief to pick up his first win, with Adrian Martin coming in to earn the save. Gedman went the distance for Worcester, allowing 10 runs on the evening.
The nightcap was a tidy affair, which saw the hosts gain the split by virtue of a 1-0 decision. Kyle Regnault allowed just two hits over six innings and a first-inning marker was all the Tornadoes would need. Brachold was kept off the board in game two, going 0-for-3.
After a high-scoring opener, it took just two batters in the last of the first for Worcester to get on the board, as Jerod Edmondson led off with a triple and scored on a Ryan Brocket grounder. From there, Rockland starter Dan Jurik traded zeroes with Regnault, with Jurik allowing just four hits total over his complete game of six innings. Nick Serino came on for the close in the seventh, putting the first two runners on before escaping the jam.
Rockland remains in Worcester to play the Tornadoes Tuesday and Wednesday, both at 7:05 pm, finishing out the road portion of their schedule. After days off Thursday and Friday, the Boulders wrap up the season with Fan Appreciation Weekend on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, September 1-3.
