INDIANAPOLIS -- Infielder John Bowker has been named the Indianapolis Indians' Player of the Month for August. He will be awarded a custom-made watch courtesy of Windsor Jewelry before Saturday night's home finale against the Louisville Bats.

Bowker batted .319 (29-for-91) with 10 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, four home runs and 10 RBI during the season's final full month. The infielder's .319 batting average and four home runs were both August highs for the Indians, while his seven doubles tied him with INF Pedro Ciriaco and INF/OF Mitch Jones for the team lead.

The infielder, who was acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates from the San Francisco Giants' organization along with RHP Joe Martinez on July 31 for lefty-specialist Javier Lopez, has hit .313 (90-for-288) with 46 runs scored, 19 doubles, 18 home runs and 46 RBI in 76 games at the Triple-A level this season. In 42 games at the Major League level with the Giants and the Pirates this year, Bowker has hit .205 (17-for-83) with nine runs scored, three home runs and eight RBI.

Bowker made his MLB debut with San Francisco on April 12, 2008 and became the eighth player in Giants' history to hit a home run in his first big league game. Then, one day later, he became the only Giant in San Francisco and New York history to hit a homer in his first two MLB games. Bowker's historic home runs helped him drive in seven RBI in his first two games in the majors, a tally which marked the most by an MLB player since St. Louis Cardinals' Joe Cunningham also drove in seven from June 30 - July 1, 1954.

Two home games remain during the Indians' 2010 campaign and tickets for Friday or Saturday's contests can be purchased by going online at www.IndyIndians.com, visiting the Victory Field Box Office at 501 West Maryland Street or calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000.
