The Gwinnett Braves beat the Durham Bulls 6-4 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. The Braves sweep the two game series and win the season series over the IL Southern Division Champions, 12-9. With the win, the Braves are now 71-69 on the season with three games left to play. The Bulls are 86-54.
It Was Over When: Braves center fielder Antone Richardson drew a bases loaded walk off of Durham reliever Jake McGee in the top of the eighth. It broke a 4-all tie and gave the Braves a lead they would never lose. Barbaro Canizares hit a solo homer in the ninth-his 13th of the season-to provide the final margin of victory.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: RHP Brandon Beachy was dominate in his 7th Triple-A start of the season, left with a 4-0 lead, but got a no-decision. He went 6.0 IP with 8K and no walks with 6H and 0R/ER. RHP Michael Broadway (4-0) lost the 4-0 lead in the seventh, but gets the win with 2.0 IP, 5H, 4R, 2ER, 0BB and 3K. RHP Stephen Marek worked the ninth for this ninth save.
At the plate: Luis Bolivar went 4-for-5 and scored two runs. Barbaro Canizares upped his league leading average to .342 with a 3-for-4 night, a homer and two RBIs. Antone Richardson finished 3-for-3, and Don Nelson went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. The Braves finished with 15 hits.
The opposition: On the Mound: RHP Richard De Los Santos started for the Bulls and also got a no decision. He went 3.2 IP with 8H, 4R/ER, 2BB and 1K. LHP Darrin Downs entered in the 4th and finished with 3.1 IP, 3H, 0R/ER and 4K. LHP Jake McGee(1-1) got the loss in his one inning of work.
At the plate: Shortstop Omar Luna went 3-for-4 and first baseman Chris Richard finished 2-for-4.
On Deck: The Braves travel to Fort Mill, South Carolina to face the Charlotte Knights for the final three game series of the 2010 season. Saturday night's game at Knight's Castle will have a first pitch of 7:15 p.m. LHP Scott Diamond (4-0, 2.41 ERA) will start for the Braves. The Knights will start RHP Kyle McCulloch (2-4, 6.21 ERA)
