Bowie Beats Akron in 2-1 Duel

The Bowie Baysox use strong pitching to back early runs in 2-1 victory over the Akron RubberDucks on Wednesday night at Prince George's Stadium.

Turning Point

Bowie opened the bottom of the second with back-to-back singles to put the early pressure on Akron. John Rhodes capitalized on the great scoring chance, doubling home both runners on the fourth pitch of the at-bat to make it 2-0 Baysox.

Mound Presence

Jack Leftwich got the start for Akron and had his lone rough stretch in the second inning. After allowing those three straight hits, the righty settled down and retired the next six men he faced to finish his outing strong. In total, Leftwich tossed three innings allowing two runs while striking out one. Doug Nikhazy followed with three scoreless innings allowing just one hit while punching out three. Jordon Jones tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Duck Tales

Akron's offense was held in check for most of the night with Bowie's pitching scattering five Akron hits in the contest. The RubberDucks lone run came in the top of the eighth when Julian Escobedo launched a solo home run to center to cut Bowie's lead down to 2-1.

Notebook

Escobedo's two hits gives him five on the young season, which is good for second most on the team...Akron's pitchers recorded six strikeouts in the game marking the first time this season the staff did not combine for double digit strikeouts...Game Time: 2:04...Attendance: 1,144.

The RubberDucks will continue the series with the Bowie Baysox on Thursday, April 13 at 6:35 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium. Righty Gavin Williams (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for Akron against Bowie righty Houston Roth (0-0, 4.50 ERA).
