
Squirrels Fall Short in 7-6 Loss to Senators

HARRISBURG, Pa. - After rallying to tie the score late, the Richmond Flying Squirrels lost to the Harrisburg Senators, 7-6, on Wednesday night at FNB Field.
The Flying Squirrels (4-1) picked up their first loss of the year in a back-and-forth game with the Senators (2-3).
With the score tied, 5-5, entering the ninth, Harrisburg placed runners at first and third off two hits and a sacrifice bunt. Trey Harris broke for the plate on a passed ball to score the winning run.
The Flying Squirrels trailed, 6-5, in the top of the eighth. Tyler Fitzgerald hit a leadoff single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Carter Aldrete drove a base hit up the middle to score Fitzgerald and evened the score, 6-6.
Juan Sanchez (Loss, 0-1) set down the Senators in order with two strikeouts in the bottom of the eighth. The Flying Squirrels led off the ninth with a base hit but were held scoreless by Senators reliever Amos Willingham (Win, 1-0).
Richmond snagged a 1-0 lead in the first when Patrick Bailey shot a single to drive in Ismael Munguia from second base.
The Senators evened the score, 1-1, in the third inning with a sacrifice fly by Leonel Valera.
With runners at second and third and no outs in the fourth, Riley Mahan drew a walk and a passed ball allowed Andy Thomas and Aldrete to score. . Hayden Cantrelle lined a single to score Mahan and jumped the Flying Squirrels to a 4-1 advantage.
Later in the inning, Luis Matos chopped a single down the left field line to bring home Cantrelle and push the Richmond lead to 5-1.
Harrisburg tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth off a fielder's choice groundout by Valera and an RBI single by Yasel Antuna to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Will Frizzell tied the game, 5-5, with a solo home run in the sixth inning against reliever Randy Rodriguez.
The Senators captured a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh when Meregildo punched an RBI single to right field against Richmond reliever Matt Frisbee.
Richmond starter Ryan Murphy allowed four runs and five hits with two strikeouts over four innings.
The Flying Squirrels continue the road trip tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for noon at FNB Field. Right-handed pitcher Carson Seymour (0-0, 2.25) will get the start for Richmond opposed by right-hander Jackson Rutledge (0-0, 3.86) for Harrisburg.
