New York Boulders News Release

(RAMAPO, NY) - The tough rain did not stop the Rockland Boulders from coming out of the night with a win against the Quebec Capitales. With the win, the Boulders (21-16) win their third straight and give the Capitales (17-20) their second straight loss.

The Capitales opened up the game early in the first inning. Jonathon Malo started things off with a leadoff single to rightfield. This would prove to be the first run of the game after Balbino Fuenmayor hit an RBI single to centerfield to score Malo and make it a 1-0 Capitales ballgame.

Rockland was not able to get on the board in the first inning, going down 1-2-3. However, the Boulders were able to plate their first run in the second inning after eight Boulders came to the plate. Steve Nyisztor and Joe Maloney took first and second after Nyisztor doubled and Maloney was hit by a pitch. Stephen Cardullo was able to come through with a single to shallow rightfield, scoring Nyisztor to make it a 1-1 tie ballgame. All it took for Rockland to take the lead was a Marcus Nidiffer infield single to score Maloney and give the Boulders a 2-1 lead.

Soon enough it was a tie ballgame again. In the third inning, Malo lead it off for the Capitales once again, this time hitting a leadoff solo-homerun to leftfield, which gave Quebec a 3-2 advantage. This would prove to be the last run the Capitales would score in the contest.

After two consecutive strikeouts, the Boulders were able to have a four-run fifth inning. The Boulders went on to score four runs on four consecutive hits. Nyisztor began the rally, getting his second hit of the night, a single to center. Joe Maloney gave the Boulders the lead once again after he blasted a two-run homerun to leftcenter. Rockland was able to extend their lead even more after Cardullo singled to center and scored on a Marcus Niddiffer triple, giving the Boulders a 6-2 advantage and ultimately the win.

Richard Salazar (4-2) picked up the win for the Boulders going five and one-third innings. Salazar gave up two runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking two. Leondy Perez (1-4) pitched five innings for the Capitales, giving up six runs on 10 hits, striking out five and walking one.

Stovall, Nyisztor, Cardullo, and Nidiffer each had a multi-hit game for the Boulders. Rockland looks to sweep Quebec Thursday, July 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Provident Bank Park. The series finale will conclude with a 3D Fireworks Extravaganza at Provident Bank Park.
