
Boulders Survive Greys Thanks to Mackenzie

Rockland County, NY - Jake MacKenzie lined a single to centerfield to score pinch-runner Steven Figueroa with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the host New York Boulders a 5-4 win over the Empire State Greys on Saturday night at Clover Stadium in Pomona.
The Boulders entered the bottom of the ninth trailing the winless Greys 4-3. Chris Kwitzer led off the frame with a walk, which was followed by single off the bat of Gian Martellini.
Figueroa pinch ran for Martellini with Francisco Del Valle at the plate against Greys' reliever Jason Pineda. Del Valle's sacrifice bunt moved the runners up to second and third, however Pineda struck out pinch-hitter Austin Dennis for the inning's second out.
With David Vinsky at bat, PIneda unleashed a wild pitch that scored Kwitzer with the tying run. Vinsky then worked a walk before MacKenzie's hit that secured the win foir New York.
Empire State had snapped a 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Hiroki Itakura.
Leo Pineda, the fourth New York pitcher, picked up the win, evening his season mark at 2-2.
Jason Pineda was tagged with the loss thagt dropped him to 0-3 on the year.
The loss was the Greys' 20th in succession to open the year.
The Greys jumped in front with a run in the third inning on an RBI single by Itakura. However, the Boulders answered with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to grab a 2-1 lead - Kwitzer's fourth home run of the year, a solo shot in the fifth, tied the game, while a throwing error by Greys'shortstop John Benevolent allowed Vinsky to score with the run that put New York ahead 2-1.
A two-run single by Will Decker put the Greys ahead 3-2 in the seventh, but the Boulders responded in the bottom of the inning, getting a run-scoring double by Vinsky to deadlock the game at 3-3.
