Schaumburg Boomers News Release
CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers matched the single game record for triples with four, scoring in six different innings to break a three-game slide and notch a 9-4 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts in the roadtrip finale on Saturday night.
Alec Craig led off the game with single and scored when Chase Dawson tripled down the left field line, his league best eighth of the year. William Salas knocked home Dawson moments later to make the score 2-0. The Boomers have scored first inning runs in six consecutive contests and have scored first in nine straight affairs. The lead reached 4-0 in the second after Thomas DeBonville tripled and scored on a groundout by Brett Milazzo. Cris Ruiz deposited his first homer of the year over the wall in left to finish the scoring in the frame.
Windy City was able to score a run in the bottom of the second and again in the third against spot-starter Erik Martinez. Craig tallied an RBI single in the fourth while DeBonville and Ruiz knocked home runs in the fifth to make the score 7-2. Milazzo and Matt Bottcher drove home the final two runs in the seventh and eighth. Windy City loaded the bases in the eighth and scored twice but the Boomers were able to close the door, finishing with 18 hits and four steals.
Bottcher finished 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and four hits. Bottcher has reached base in all 20 games and owns a 12-game hitting streak. Craig and Clint Hardy picked up three hits apiece as eight members of the lineup posted hits. Martinez threw three innings while Aaron Glickstein nabbed the win with three near perfect innings. Kristian Scott, Jake Joyce and Darrell Thompson finished out the contest. The pitching staff, who leads the league in strikeouts, posted 12 in the game and 26 in the brief series.
The Boomers (12-8) return home on Tuesday night to meet the Gateway Grizzlies at 6:30pm on a $1 Hot Dog night presented by Friendship Village. RHP Blake Stelzer (1-1, 4.30) is slated to make the start. Tickets for the 2022 season are on sale now! Visit boomersbaseball.com.
