New York Boulders News Release

RAMAPO, New York - The Rockland Boulders scored six unanswered runs, including three in the seventh inning, to defeat the Quebec Capitales in the first of a three game series on a rainy night at Provident Bank Park by the score of 6-3.

The Boulders rallied to tie the game and than took the lead in the seventh thanks to a returning Ray Stokes, who bunted for a hit that was thrown away by pitcher Rayner Oliveos to score Joe Hage form first. Ryan Mollica and Jeremy Slayden contributed with two RBIs of their own to extend the lead to three, as the Boulders never looked back.

The delay had no effect on the Quebec offense, as they got off to fast start in the first inning. The Capitales compiled four consecutive hits leading to Rene Leveret and Seth Henry plating one run a piece to give Quebec an early 2-0 lead.

The Capitales went right back to work in the second, as Rockland starter Ryan Knippschild walked Patrick D'Aoust, who was later driven in by Josh Colafemina making the score 3-0. Quebec would eventually load the bases, but Knippschild worked his way out of trouble to finish the inning with only allowing the one run.

The Boulders answered back in the third, as Mollica hit his seventh home run of the year to cut the Capitales lead to 3-1.

In the fourth with one out, Scott Clement singled up the middle to drive in Norm Hutchins, who doubled in the previous at-bat making the score 3-2.

In the sixth, Hutchins doubled in Cristobal Santana from first, which not only tied the game at three, but also knocked Quebec's starter Bryan Rembisz out of the game after 5 1/3 innings of work.

Adrian Martin closed out the game by pitching a perfect ninth inning to pick up his league leading 15th save and helped earn Jon Shepard his first victory of the season.

The Boulders (6-6, 25-33) will continue their series against the Quebec Capitales (6-6, 41-17) at Provident Bank Park Saturday night in game two of three. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

John Muller (2-4) will make his return to the starting rotation as he faces off against Quebec's Matthew Rusch (4-4).
