The New York Federals scored four runs in the top of the second inning, but the Tornadoes had four of their own and added four more later in an 8-5 win on Friday night at home.

Kevin Cooper earned his fourth win of the season (4-2) with 5.1 innings. He allowed three walks and four runs on five hits, but only one run was earned. Albert Ayala got his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth, while Nick Serino also had a shutout appearance out of the bullpen, recording four K's.

James Kukucka (3-5) lost for the second time this year against the Tornadoes. Worcester is 3-0 in games against him and 6-1 against New York overall. Kukucka pitched three innings, allowing six runs (all earned) on four hits and five walks. He struck out two batters in the start.

Alex Trezza's two-run homer in the third inning put the Tornadoes on top for good at 6-4. Worcester added another couple of runs in the fifth and improved to 5-3 on the current home stand.

Alex Nunez finished the game with three RBI and two hits. Abraham Nunez walked three times, and Mark Minicozzi scored twice after leading an inning off by reaching base (once with a single, once with a walk).

Game two of the series is Saturday at 7:05pm, as the Tornadoes' number one starter, Zach Zuercher, gets the nod. The gates at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field open at 6:00, and Tornadoes Pre-Game Live on USTREAM begins at 6:50.
