New York Boulders News Release
The Boulders won both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Ottawa Champions. Rockland took the first game 9-5 and the second game by a final of 2-0.
In the first game, the Boulders benefitted from several outstanding performances, including four RBI from Ryne Birk. Collin Ferguson drove in three more runs, including a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Senoo Katsuya and Matt Oberste chipped in three hits apiece, and the Boulders offense racked up 14 hits in just six innings at the plate.
On the mound, J.D. Busfield started the game with six scoreless innings before running into trouble in the seventh; Nick Kennedy came on to get the final two outs.
In the second game, the Boulders got more outstanding pitching, this time from Landon Holifield, who started the game with four shutout innings. Tim Ponto, Kennedy and Robbie Gordon all tossed a scoreless inning each in relief. Birk and Marcos Almonte drove in the only two runs for the Boulders in each of the first two innings, but the scoring was enough to carry Rockland to a 2-0 victory and a sweep of the doubleheader.
After two victories on Tuesday, the Boulders are now three games ahead of the Champions for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Can-Am league. Rockland and Ottawa will continue their series at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Wednesday's game will be the first of three Camp Days this season at Palisades Credit Union Park.
