New York Boulders News Release

(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) - Pitcher Nick Purdy provided the go-ahead hit in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Ottawa Champions outlasted the Rockland Boulders, 4-3, on Tuesday night at RCGT Park. A sixth inning incident saw players from both teams get ejected in a back-and-forth affair.

Rockland (13-9) got off on the right foot, taking an early lead on a Steve Nyisztor fielder's choice in the first inning, plating Jared McDonald. The Champions (8-12) quickly erased the deficit in the bottom of the second thanks to a passed ball from Boulders pitcher Stephen Harrold. Ottawa then took the lead in the third when Bryce Massanari doubled home a pair of runs for a 3-1 advantage.

Boulders catcher Marcus Nidiffer led off the top of the fourth with a double before coming home on Ryan Fisher's extra base hit, cutting the deficit to one. Nidiffer would again double in the sixth, this time it would spark something more than a rally. A benches-clearing altercation saw Nidiffer, along with three Ottawa players leave the game, including Champions starting pitcher Dan Tobik.

Trailing by one, and forced to put the pitcher in the batting order, Rockland was able to fight back and tie the game in the top of the eighth inning. After Joe Maloney singled with one out, he proceeded to steal second and was driven home by Stefen Henderson's line drive single off reliever Nick Purdy.

Purdy would get the last laugh however, singling home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Shawn Gilblair. Rockland would then go down in order in the ninth, suffering their sixth loss in their last eight games. Purdy (2-1) got the win going one and one-third innings in relieve while Gilblair (1-1) took the loss in only two-thirds of an inning of work. Alan DeRatt picked up his fourth save of the season.

The Boulders will conclude their seven-game road trip when they finish up their three-game series at Ottawa on Wednesday, June 17. Rockland will then return home for seven straight, beginning with a four-game set against the Shikoku Island League All-Stars from June 18-21 at Provident Bank Park.
