Can-Am League Game Recaps

June 16, 2015 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Rockland 5, Ottawa 3

The Rockland Boulders scored four runs in the third inning and that proved to be enough as they took care of the Ottawa Champions 5-3.

After the first two batters of the top of third inning were retired, the next six batters each recorded hits and four of them came around to score. DH Steve Nyisztor, who had a game-high three hits, opened the scoring with an RBI single and RF Joe Maloney and C Marcus Nidiffer followed that with matching RBI doubles. 3B Ryan Fisher added an RBI single to score Nidiffer. On the night, eight of the nine Boulders batters had at least one hit.

For the Champions, C Bryce Massanari and DH Matt Tenaglia each had two hits and LF Mike Schwartz had a pair of RBI.

Trois-Rivieres 8, Laredo 2

The Trois-Rivieres Aigles took an interleague contest with the Laredo Lemurs 8-2 as they blasted 15 hits.

The Aigles scored a run in the first inning as LF Craig Hertler hit a lead-off single and came around to score later in the frame. The Lemurs responded with an RBI single from RF Denis Phipps in the bottom of the inning but the Aigles put up a pair of runs in the second inning and then again in the third to take a commanding 5-1 lead. That margin proved to be enough as Laredo scored just once more on the night.

DH Jon Smith went 4-for-4 with two RBI and CF Steve Brown went 3-for-5 for the Aigles. Laredo's 2B Abel Nieves had a team-high two hits and the other of the team's RBI.

Quebec 3, New Jersey 1

The Quebec Capitales took the first game of their three-game series with the New Jersey Jackals 3-1.

The Capitales struck first with a solo home run from CF Kalian Sams in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Jackals tied the score in the top of the fifth as 2B Anthony Gomez singled to score RF Leandro Castro but Quebec took the lead back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single from 3B Jonathan Malo. The Capitales added an insurance run in the seventh as C Jean-Luc Blaquiere scored when 2B Tyler Young bounced out to the second baseman.

Starting pitcher Derek Dubois earned the win as he went five innings on the mound and allowed just one earned run on four hits and had four strikeouts. Reliever Deryk Hooker picked up the save as he worked the ninth inning without allowing a hit.
