Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio - The bottom of the Lake Erie batting order drove in four of Lake Erie's seven runs at All Pro Freight Stadium on Tuesday night, as the Crushers snapped Normal's 10-game winning streak with a 7-2 victory.
The victory for the Crushers (34-44) was their third in their last four games at home, and snapped the CornBelters'(47-32) 10-game winning streak, marking their first loss since August 5.
Lake Erie used a complete effort, getting big performances in every aspect of the game. Their bullpen provided four scoreless innings, while they scored seven times on 11 hits and played an error free game.
The bottom four batters in the order, Boo Vazquez, Chandler Brock, Daniel Aldrich and Cody Stevens combined to reach nine times, with six hits, and drove in four of Lake Erie's seven runs.
The CornBelters took the early lead in the top of the first inning. Aaron Dudley smashed a two-run homer to right, his seventh of the season to count for Normal's only two runs of the game. They were limited to just three hits after Dudley's homer.
Lake Erie struck for two runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Vazquez started the rally with a one out walk, and made his way to second on Brock's first of three hits on the night, before Daniel Aldrich walked to load the bases. Stevens then reached on Normal second baseman Santiago Chirino's error, which allowed Vazquez to score, and Austin Prott tied the game with a RBI single to left.
The Crushers then used a little two out magic to take the lead in the bottom of the third. Juan Sanchez reached on a two out base hit, and scored the go-ahead run moments later on Vazquez's RBI double to right.
Stevens drove in another run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly, before the Crushers put the game away with a three-run eighth inning. Brock's third hit of the game was a RBI triple to right center, driving in the first run of the eighth inning. He scored moments later on Aldrich's RBI single to right, and Trevor Stevens drove in the game's final run on a RBI groundout.
Brad Duffy (8-3) scored his second straight victory, allowing just a pair of runs on three hits while striking out five. He has won each of his last three starts. Robert Baroniel (2-3) took the loss after allowing four runs, three earned on six hits over six innings of action.
Brock led the way for Lake Erie offensively, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and drove one in as well. Prott and Sanchez each hit safely twice, both going 2-for-5.
The Crushers will continue their three game series with the Normal CornBelters at All Pro Freight Stadium on Wednesday night. Right-hander Zach Morton (4-2, 3.38) will start for the Crushers and right-hander Mike Schweiss (6-7, 3.40) will start for the CornBelters. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
