Washington, Pa - The Washington Wild Things defeated the Windy City Thunderbolts by a score of 4-2 Tuesday night in game one of a three game series.

Windy City got off to a quick start when Austin Gallagher doubled and drove in Coco Torres, who had led the inning off with a double. But the Wild Things' pitching and defense quieted the Thunderbolts, who would not score again until the seventh inning.

Washington began a slug fest in the bottom of the first when Sam Mende smacked a ball over the right field wall, driving in Matt Ford, who had doubled earlier in the inning. Scott Kalamar then added a run when he, too, homered, sending the ball over the right field fence.

Andrew Heck continued the flurry of homeruns when he slugged a bomb in the second inning, giving the Wild Things a three run advantage.

The Thunderbolts' Max White tried to rally Windy City when he, too, hit a home run in the seventh inning. He cut into Washington's lead, but it wasn't enough.

Matt Fraudin, a native of Upper St. Clair, got the win for Washington, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out three and walking one in 6.1 innings of work. Steve Messner and Jonathan Kountis pitched in relief. Kountis earned his eighth save of the season.

Washington and Windy City meet for game two of the series Wednesday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT. Air time on WJPA 95.3 FM and www.msasports.net is 6:55 p.m. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
