Asheville Tourists News Release

GREENVILLE- The Asheville Tourists fell to a familiar place on Friday night, down big in a game on the road. The Greenville Drive put the Tourists in a 7-0 hole until Asheville was able to score four in the eighth inning. Asheville ended up on the wrong side of a 7-4 score.

For the fourth straight game on this road trip, the opposing starting pitcher dominated the Tourists hitters. Tonight, it was Alex Scherff who tossed six shutout innings. Scherff entered the game winless and with an ERA north of six.

Asheville's starting pitcher Will Gaddis threw well. Gaddis ran into trouble in the third and surrendered five runs, three of which were earned. Gaddis battled and finished with 6.1 innings pitched.

The Tourists pounded out four hits through the first nine men they sent to the plate; however, after three innings they had still only sent the minimum to the plate. Asheville did not have a runner reach second base until the eighth inning.

In the eighth, the Tourists loaded the bases and Bret Boswell came through. The reigning South Atlantic League Player of the Week ripped a three-run double to the right-centerfield gap. Boswell finished with two hits as did Casey Golden.

Braxton Lorenzini and Derrik Watson combined to throw 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Asheville. The Tourists are a season worst 12 games under .500 and continue to struggle away from McCormick Field. There are two games left on the current road trip.
