June 1, 2018 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Lexington, KY: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, split a doubleheader with the Lexington Legends on Friday evening.
In game one, Garrett Cave stole the show. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, two runs, while striking out eight. His effort kept the GreenJackets in control the entire game. Cave earned his fourth win of the season and now has won his last three starts.
At the plate, a Manuel Geraldo three-run home run in the top of the first inning, gave the GreenJackets the early lead. In the top of the 7th, Ryan Kirby solo home run added an insurance run the GreenJackets would need as they ended up pulling off the 4-3 victory.
In game two, the GreenJackets once again took a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Jacob Gonzalez sent one deep to left field. Augusta was in control with a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning, when the Legends erased the margin with a four-run inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Aaron Bond would knock in Rob Calabrese from third base to give the GreenJackets a one run lead. The Legends refused to quit once again, tying the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In extras, both teams would score a run in the eighth inning to make the score 7-7. In the top of the ninth, the GreenJackets couldn't knock their man in from third and left the door open to the Legends. They took advantage of the opportunity and walked off with the victory in the bottom of the inning. The Legends took game two, 8-7.
The GreenJackets will play game three of the series tomorrow against the Legends at 6:35 pm. The lead for Augusta is now three games over the Rome Braves in the Southern Division.
