
Boston Bruins assign four players to Providence

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that the Boston Bruins have assigned right wings Jason MacDonald and Garret Stroshein, left wing Jeremy Reich and center Nathan Robinson to Providence's training camp.
The Providence Bruins have also invited defenseman Scott Ford to training camp and released left wing Scott Mifsud and center Benoit Mondou.
MacDonald, 31, enters his 12th full professional season. The Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island native spent parts of nine of those seasons in the AHL; twice going to the Calder Cup Finals and one other time reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. In his career, MacDonald accumulated 2,083 penalty minutes with a season high 330 in 2001-02 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. During the 2003-04 season MacDonald split time between the New York Rangers and the Hartford Wolf Pack, before joining the St. John's Maple Leafs last season. MacDonald had his highest offensive output during the 1996-97 season posting 47 points (22g, 25a) and 189 PIM in 63 games with the Fredericton Canadiens. In 438 career AHL games MacDonald totaled 205 points (91g, 114a) and 1,565 PIM.
Reich, 24, enters his sixth professional season. The Craik, Saskatchewan native began last season with the Syracuse Crunch before being traded to the Houston Aeros. In 68 games with both teams, he had 16 points (7g, 9a) and 223 PIM. In 2003-04 Reich had a career high in goals (14), assists (37) and points (51) and finished second on the Crunch in assists and third in points. The left wing spent nine games that season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, making his NHL debut on January 21, 2004 vs. the St. Louis Blues, tallying an assist. Reich was the Chicago Blackhawks third pick (second round), 39th overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Robinson, 23, enters his fourth professional season. The Scarborough, Ontario native split last season between the Crunch and Grand Rapid Griffins, tallying 44 points (14g, 30a) in 69 games. During the 2003-04 season, Robinson was selected for the AHL All-Star game and spent five games in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings posting two penalty minutes. With Grand Rapids, Robinson had 50 points (24g, 26a) in 69 games, ranking second on the team in goals and points. He also earned the AHL Player of the Week Award on December 21, 2003. Robinson spent his rookie season with the Griffins as well, posting 17 points (3g, 14a) in 53 games as his team advanced to the Western Conference Finals.
Stroshein, 25, enters his fourth professional season. The Edmonton, Alberta native spent the last three seasons with the Portland Pirates. In 105 AHL games he recorded 268 PIM and earned a call-up to the Washington Capitals where he had 14 PIM in three games.
Ford, 25, enters his second professional season. Last season, the Fort St. John, British Columbia native split time between the AHL's Cleveland Barons and the ECHL's Fresno Falcons. In 18 games, Ford had two assists and 12 PIM. Prior to turning pro, the defenseman played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Brown University. Over those four years Ford had 47 points (15g, 32a) and 130 PIM in 118 games.
The 2005-06 season opens up at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday, October 14th at 7:05 p.m. against the Portland Pirates. Training camp continues tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the Rhode Island Sports Center, on Route 146 in North Smithfield, RI.
