
Border Cats beat Stingers 7-4

The Border Cats rallied from a 4-0 deficit to knock off the Willmar Stingers 7-4 in their home opener Saturday night at rainy and chilly Subway Field. The Cats scored three times in the 5th inning thanks to a two-run homer by Michael Foster (Northeastern University) and an RBI single by Joey Hawkins (Missouri State University). Thunder Bay took the lead for good as Northeastern's Jason Vosler made it 5-4 with a two-run double in the 6th inning. Vosler finished the night 4-5 with a two doubles and a pair of runs batted in. Foster went 3-5 with his first home run and also scored twice. The Pickering, ON., native not only starred at the plate, he also pitched the final two innings with a pair of strikeouts to nail down the save for Cameron Wood. Wood (Redlands Community College), pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and struck out two for the victory. Cory Kay (Harper College) returned to Thunder Bay and went 2-4 with an RBI double and Ty Stetson (Murray State University) went 2-2 with a double and two runs batted in.
The Cats (1-3), and Stingers (2-2), wrap up their two-game series today at 5:05pm. Lefthander Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay.
