St. Cloud Rox Defeat the Waterloo Bucks 5-1 Saturday

St. Cloud, Minn. -The St. Cloud Rox move into first place in the Northwoods League North Division after defeating the Waterloo Bucks 5-1 Saturday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. The Rox are tied with Rochester in first place.

The Rox took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Tim Colwell reached on an error to lead off and then Devin Pearson earned the walk to post two runners on base. Later in the inning Adam Martin hit a single putting Colwell on third. Chris Paul hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring the Rox solo run in the first.

Scoring went stagnant until the top of the fifth inning as the Bucks' Marcos Calderon hit a double scoring the only run for Waterloo.

St. Cloud would come back come back and get the bats swinging in the bottom of the sixth. Tim Colwell led off for the Rox earning a walk. Colwell then advanced to second on an error by the pitcher and then to third as Devin Pearson was putout for the first out.

Colwell continued to round the bases as he slid into home plate on a Waterloo pass ball. Carlos Leal would then get hit by a pitch to move him to first base. Next up was Adam Martin who hit a double scoring Leal to take the Rox to a 3-1 lead. Following Martin was a single by Chris Paul putting Martin on third.

With one out on the board Paul stole second to put runners on third and second for the Rox. To extend the lead to 5-1 it was Garrett Fischer hitting a single to right field and then advancing to second on a fielding error.

The Bucks would have a pitching substitution into the game and would end the inning for the Rox.

St. Cloud would hold Waterloo to no runs and only three hits in rest of the game to earn their third straight victory of the season defeating the Bucks 5-1.

On the mound pitching seven innings for the Rox was Alex McRae earning his first win of the season and was later relieved by John Oltman who pitched two innings only allowing two hits.

The St. Cloud Times Rox player of the game tonight was starting pitcher Alex McRae as he had an outstanding performance pitching seven innings for St. Cloud. McRae only allowed two hits and posted nine strikeouts against the Bucks to earn his first win.

The Rox (3-1, 3-1 North) and the Bucks (2-2, 2-2 North) will be back in action Sunday, June 2 as they end their series here in St. Cloud. Game time is slated for 3:05 p.m. with the gates opening up one-hour prior to game time.

Sunday is also Teacher Appreciation Day at the ballpark presented by the Minnesota Connections Academy. The first 300 fans will receive an apple and teachers will receive a general admission ticket for just $5 with credentials. Also at the ballpark Sunday it is Coborn's Kids' Day where kids have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game.
