Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - James Boone continued his torrid offensive surge, smacking his third home run in two games to power the Curve to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Erie SeaWolves at Blair County Ballpark Saturday night.
Altoona trailed most of the game thanks to a strong pitching performance from Erie starter Danny Christensen, as the SeaWolves lefty carried a shutout into the seventh inning. With Altoona trailing 2-0 to start the frame, the Curve put Christensen on the ropes, as Victor Alvarez walked to start the three-run rally. Milver Reyes later knocked him home with an RBI single to cut the Erie lead in half. The hit by Reyes knocked Christensen out of the game. Boone then followed with a two-out, two-run home run off reliever Casey Fien (0-1), giving the Curve a 3-2 lead which they would not relinquish.
Josh Hill started the game for Altoona and pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed single runs in the first and third innings. He was relieved by Chris Hernandez (3-0), who retired nine consecutive batters before allowing a single after two outs in the ninth. The right-hander followed by getting Freddy Guzman to pop out to center to end the game. All told, Hernandez tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball to pick up his third win in six appearances.
Saturday's victory was the third win in the last four games for the Curve, who improve their overall record to 7-9. Erie (8-8) has dropped eight of its last 12 games after a 4-0 start to the season.
The Curve will look to win their second consecutive series Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. in the fourth and final game against the SeaWolves. Altoona will send Derek Hankins (0-1, 2.25) to the hill to make the start, while Erie will counter with righty Josh Rainwater (2-1, 1.64).
Great seats for Sunday's game are still available. The first 1,000 fans ages 15 and older will receive a $5 gift card which can be used on future Curve tickets, Curve merchandise or at the concession stands at Blair County Ballpark. The gift card giveaway is part of the Curve's own version of the Economic Stimulus Plan. The first 2,000 fans ages 14 and under get a complimentary Curve Growth Chart and kids those ages can participate in the first Curve Youth Baseball Clinic of the season starting at 9 a.m. with registration.
