Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Washington Wild Things in the middle game of a mid-week series at Wintrust Field after the Wild Things scored two runs with two outs in the top of the ninth.
Both starting pitchers put up consistent zeroes to start the contest. Washington left a runner at third in the first before Kobey Schlotman seized control on the mound, retiring 16 straight. Washington starter Zach Kirby retired the first six batters. Brett Milazzo was able to give the Boomers the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a line drive homer over the wall in right, his fifth of the year. Schlotman was working towards a complete game shutout but Wagner Lagrange doubled home the tying run and Andrew Czech plated the winning run with another two-bagger with two outs in the ninth.
Schlotman worked 8.2 innings and suffered the loss, allowing just two runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Blake Berry tallied a pair of hits as the Boomers finished with five.
The Boomers (41-25) conclude the brief four-game homestand on Thursday night at 6:30 pm with the finale against Washington. Thursday night is Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Ascension Illinois featuring a pink jersey auction, pink themes, and more. RHP Jackson Hickert (4-2, 4.07) is schedule to start against RHP Justin Showalter (5-3, 5.47).
