Boogaard Becomes a Nailer

WHEELING, WV - The Pittsburgh Penguins have reassigned right wing Aaron Boogaard from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL) to the Wheeling Nailers. Additionally, Pittsburgh has also reassigned center Mark Letestu from Wheeling to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, it was announced on Tuesday.

Boogaard, 21, has appeared in two games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, going scoreless with five penalty minutes. The native of Regina, Saskatchewan, made his professional hockey debut on October 20 in Bridgeport.

The 6-1, 215 pound forward was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on April 23, 2007 after completing his junior hockey career. Last season, the tough winger recorded 21 points (10g, 11a) and 173 penalty minutes in 69 games with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League.

He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round (#175 overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He compiled 589 penalty minutes in 273 games (2.16 PIMPG) as an amateur.

Letestu, 22, began the season with the AHL Penguins before being assigned to the Nailers on October 15. He recorded three points (1+2) and four penalty minutes in six games with Wheeling.

Signed to an NHL entry level contract by the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 22, 2007, Letestu suited up for three games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during the 2006-07 regular season, and appeared in two Calder Cup Playoff games for the Penguins, going scoreless.
