Bombers Prevail in a Dogfight Against Pump Jacks
July 14, 2011 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
The Bombers made a statement on Thursday night, beating the TCL-leading East Texas Pump Jacks 8-7 in a back-and-forth contest. The win had the team riding high as they head to their final series before the Cricket Wireless TCL All-Star Game.
Head coach Brent Alumbaugh commented that the team "really hadn't had a statement win at home...until tonight." The Bombers will look to ride that wave of momentum as they make their push for the TCL Championship Crown.
Things looked bleak for the Bombers early on, as the Pump Jacks put up 3 runs to start the game as Beau Maggi hit a 3-run home run over the left field fence. The home team struck back in the 4th inning, scoring 4 runs in the frame as every hitter in the lineup stepped to the plate.
After putting up another 3 runs in the 6th, it looked like more trouble later on for the Bombers, as 2 defensive errors helped the Pump Jacks score 3 runs in the 8th inning to go up 7-4. The Bombers showed their mettle in the bottom half of the inning though, pairing 2 singles with 2 walks that resulted in a go-ahead run by Cricket Wireless TCL All-Star Casey Dykes. Fellow All-Star Garrett Shepperd came on in the 9th inning to close out the contest and record his single-season record tying 9th save of the season.
Notable individual performances included a 3 RBI day for All-Star Jordan Hammerman, who went 2-6 with a run scored. Hammerman also singled home Dykes to put the Bombers ahead for good. John Hale and All-Star Trey Porras combined to go 5-10 with a run and an RBI on the contest.
The Bombers will head to Acadiana tomorrow to take on the Cane Cutters in their final series before the All-Star break. The Bombers will then play host to the Cricket Wireless TCL All-Star Game on Monday, where the best and the brightest players in the TCL will come together in an epic clash of the teams from the North division and the South division. Tickets start at just $5 for the game, and more information can be found at www.bvbombers.com.
