Pump Jacks Move up in National Ranking
July 14, 2011 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release
Pump Jacks Nation is truly a national phenomenon now, according to Perfect Game ¬â¢s national rankings.
The East Texas Pump Jacks improved to #13 in Perfect Game ¬â¢s national summer collegiate baseball poll, released Wednesday. The Jacks were ranked #14 last week and broke into the top-25 at #23 two weeks ago.
The current stretch is the first time East Texas has been nationally ranked. The Pump Jacks are the only TCL team in the rankings.
The Jacks are riding a streak that has seen them win 14 of their last 16 games, including last night ¬â¢s 4-3 victory over the Brazos Valley Bombers.
They won the first-half division title, clinching their fourth straight playoff berth. The Pump Jacks have now qualified for the postseason in each season the team has played in the TCL.
The Texas Collegiate League earlier this week invited 11 Pump Jacks to the 2011 Cricket Wireless TCL All-Star Game. Jacks players make up half of the North all-star squad, including six of the nine starting positions.
With a season record of 25-11, the Pump Jacks are well on their way to breaking the franchise record for wins in a season. East Texas went 32-18 last summer on their way to the TCL Championship Series. The Jacks also lead the league in team batting average (.293) and team ERA (2.87).
Perfect Game issues weekly national rankings of summer collegiate teams, considering over 250 teams from 28 different leagues. The top slot in the poll this week is held by the Edenton Steamers, a North Carolina-based team in the Coastal Plain League. The venerable Cape Cod League placed three teams in the top-10 this week.
After winning the first half title, the Jacks have opened the second half with a 6-1 record to hold down first place. East Texas will wrap up its two-game set in Brazos Valley tonight against a Bombers squad that is 3-4 to open the half.
The Jacks return home Friday night to kick off a two-game series against the Coppell Copperheads.
Friday ¬â¢s marks the fourth Fireworks Friday of the season, presented by KLTV News. The Jacks will cap off the week with a spectacular post-game fireworks show set to a brand new soundtrack with a summertime theme.
On Saturday, the Jacks will hold a birthday party for their two loveable mascots, Boomer and Derrick. Kids coming to the game will get party favors to celebrate the occasion. Boomer and Derrick will blow out their candles and every child will receive a piece of cake. The team will even have cotton candy!
