July 14, 2011 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release
With a Texas Collegiate League-best 25-11 record, the Pump Jacks continue to win with total team efforts. Explosive hitting, outstanding starting and relief pitching and the perfect combination of speed and aggressiveness on the bases have established the Jacks as a force to be reckoned with in the TCL, and with the release of the Perfect Game ¬â¢s new summer collegiate rankings, the nation.
Coming into the game ranked 13th in the nation, one rank higher than last week, the Jacks extended their winning streak to six with a 4-3 win in a battle with Brazos Valley Tuesday night.
Once again, it was the young guns on the team that continue to dominate at the plate. Stephen F. Austin freshman Hunter Dozier led the attack going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Louisiana-Lafayette freshman Tyler Girouard continued his hot streak at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI while scoring the run that would be the difference maker.
Beau Maggi extended his hit streak to nine with a single and a run scored.
With no extra-base hits in the past three games, the Jacks continue navigate the bases on their own terms. Kirby Pellant swiped two bags, giving him 16 on the season, good enough for second in the TCL. Ryan Moore and Maggi each took one as well giving the Jacks a league-leading 85 combined on the season.
Jason Jester picked up his first win of the season, tossing two shut out innings of relief. Jester allowed only one hit while striking out four. James Guillen took the no-decision start, tossing 5.2 innings allowing three runs on four hits, striking out two.
Leaving a couple of runners in scoring position stranded in the first two innings, the Jacks finally broke through in the third with Dozier ¬â¢s two-RBI single to left field, scoring Pellant and Moore.
Maggi reached on a single and stole a base before scoring on a Girouard single, giving the Jacks a 3-0 lead.
The Bombers posted their three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-RBI double from Casey Dykes, who would come into score on a wild pitch from Guillen, tying the game at 3-3.
Girouard got things going in the ninth with a lead-off single. He traveled to third base on a sacrifice bunt from Scott Kalush with a 0-2 count and a groundout from Moore. Girouard gave the Jacks a 4-3 lead coming home to score on a wild pitch.
The Bombers led off with a single in the ninth but was stranded following back-to-back strikeouts from Jester to shutdown the Bombers and give the Jacks a 4-3 win.
The Jacks wrap up the two-game set with the Bombers on Thursday night before returning to historic Driller Park for a two game series against the Coppell Copperheads.
Friday marks the fourth Fireworks Friday of the season, presented by KLTV News. The Jacks will celebrate with a spectacular post-game show set to it ¬â¢s own unique soundtrack.
