WINNIPEG, MB - Canada's oldest brewer today announced a "free-ride" program to get fans to and
from the 94th Grey Cup game on Winnipeg Transit buses.
"We encourage all Canadian football fans to get to the game, enjoy the game and to get home safe, courtesy of Molson," said Terry Beck, Manitoba sales manager for Molson, a premier sponsor of the 2006 Grey Cup Festival.
"Molson is more than just Canada's oldest brewer - we are a community-builder," Beck said. "We encourage fans to enjoy themselves responsibly and to get home safely."
Specially-marked buses going to Canad Inns Stadium from nine suburban express routes will be free starting at 3 p.m. The downtown route will be leaving from Portage Avenue and Main Street starting at 3:30 p.m. All buses leaving the stadium after the game will be free-of-charge for anyone holding a valid Grey Cup game ticket.
"This is a great message and partnership. We want everyone to enjoy the Grey Cup and having readily accessible transportation is key," said Lyle Bauer, president and CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz praised Molson for its community contribution.
"Molson has been a strong corporate citizen and have ensured football fans in Winnipeg enjoy the best Grey Cup ever," Katz said. "Nobody knows how to party like Winnipeggers, and our citizens and visitors can enjoy Grey Cup responsibly thanks to Molson's initiative."
Posters promoting the free-ride program will appear in Winnipeg-area Liquor Marts, bars, pubs, restaurants and hotels. Details about the program will also appear in local newspapers and on radio.
"We commend Molson for its commitment to social responsibility and we are pleased to support its free-ride program," said Don Lussier, president and CEO of the MLCC, another Grey Cup sponsor.
For complete details on routes, football fans can visit www.winnipegtransit.com or can call 986-5700. An estimated 15,000 football fans are expected to take the transit buses to and from the game.
"John Molson started his brewery 220 years ago with strong community values - and
today we're proud to play our part here in Winnipeg," Beck said.
