Battle Creek - The Battle Creek Bombers used the strength of three early multi-run innings to defeat the Wisconsin Woodchucks 8-4 and end the "ÃËChucks' five-game winning streak. The Bombers would get the scoring started off of Woodchuck starter Anthony Dixon in the bottom of the second. After a Jimmy Correnti error, Jackson Glines singled up the middle to bring home Kade Scivicque and Matt Goodson to make it 2-0 Bombers. Both runs were unearned. The Woodchucks would answer back and cut that lead in half in the top of the third. With Brandon Krieg on second and two outs, Joey Rodriguez doubled off the first-base bag to bring home Krieg and make it a 2-1 Bomber lead. The Bombers would respond with another crooked number in the bottom of the frame. After Jordan Winawer and Derek Hasenbeck both reached to start the inning, both runners would score on a double by Matt Fears to extend the Bomber lead to 4-1.The Woodchucks would then begin to claw their way back. After a Jordan Devencinzi double in the fourth, a single off the bat of Garrett Rucker would score Devencinzi and cut the lead to two runs. That would be cut to one in the fifth after Rodriguez's second RBI-hit brought home Jimmy Correnti to make it 4-3.That was when the Bombers struck again. The first three batters would reach in the fifth with a single by Fears, a double by Scivicque, and a two-run triple by Mark Wiest to make it 6-3. Wiest would later score on a wild pitch by reliever Zach Rengel to make it a four-run Bomber lead. The Woodchucks would not go down easily, though. After a Devencinzi lead-off single in the eighth, he would go to second base on a wild pitch and score on a base-hit by Henry Weiler to make it 7-4. The "ÃËChucks would bring the tying run to the plate, but then Gabe Berman struck out a pair of Woodchucks to get out of the jam and keep it at 7-4.The Bombers would tack on an insurance run in the eighth, but they would not need it as they cruised to the 8-4 victory. The victory went to Caleb Vincent (1-0), and the loss went to Anthony Dixon (1-1). The two teams will duel again tomorrow at 4:05 CT for the final game of the two-game series.
