June 8, 2013 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
The Alexandria Blue Anchors had their chances, but a 9th inning home run by Mankato's Chase Simpson was the difference as the MoonDogs picked up the 4-3 victory over the Blue Anchors.
In his second start on the hill for the Blue Anchors, Colin Wendinger (St. Thomas) threw seven innings, giving up two Mankato runs while striking out nine MoonDog batters.
Tim Cusick (Dakota Wesleyan) also had a quality game for the Blue Anchors as he hit his first home run of the season. Cusick finished the day 2 for 3, and also drew one of seven walks dealt by the MoonDogs pitching staff.
Zac Custer (Dakota Wesleyan, 0-2) took the loss for the Blue Anchors, giving up the one home run in the ninth, in one inning of work.
John White got the win for Mankato, with Jess Amedee picking up the save.
The Blue Anchors and MoonDogs will match-up in the 2nd game of the two-game set Saturday at 7:05pm at the Shipyard. A reminder that Saturdays are Summer Shandy Days at the Shipyard. All game long, Summer Shandys are $1 off. The Blue Anchors would also like to remind fans about Sunday's Blue Anchors Baseball giveaway, sponsored by Elden's Fresh Foods. The first 150 fans through the gate on Sunday will receive a free baseball, courtesy of Elden's.
